How to Choose a Real Estate Agent

Choosing the right real estate agent is important for a successful property transaction. Whether you’re buying your first home (YAY!) or looking for a good rental property, here's a quick guide on what to look for in a real estate agent:

1. Experience: Seek an agent with a strong track record in your market. Translation… a real estate agent in Nashville may not know the market in Gatlinburg. I recommend using an agent who has a few years of experience under their belt. You can check that information on the State of Tennessee’s website using this link. PRO TIP: Ask any agent you interview if they’ve attended a CE class at Hywater recently.

2. Local Knowledge: It’s good to have a real estate agent who is knowledgeable on a specific development if you know that’s where you want to live. This is especially important for knowing the rules and regulations of the homeowners’ association.

3. Communication Skills: Look for a real estate agent who is responsive and transparent. If you don’t feel like they return your messages, this might be a red flag.

4. Honesty and Integrity: Trustworthiness is non-negotiable. You might be spending a lot of time with this person. You want it to be someone you trust to walk with you during this journey.

5. Marketing Skills: If you’re trying to sell your home, look for a real estate agent that has a track record of marketing their listings on social media, on the MLS, and by hosting open houses.

The “right” real estate agent is one that aligns with your needs and goals!
